The Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) is a licensing system for mortgage companies and loan originators regulated under state law. The system allows state-licensed mortgage professionals to apply for, amend, renew, and surrender licenses electronically, improving supervision by state financial regulatory agencies.
The NMLS Consumer Access portal provides free public access to licensing information about NMLS-licensed companies and individuals. Consumers can use this portal to verify the license status of any mortgage professional before doing business with them.
